GURGAON: A junior hockey coach at a govt school in the city was arrested for allegedly raping a minor student four months ago.A case was registered against him under BNS Section 63 (rape) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was produced in court and remanded in two days’ police custody for questioning.
It was on Jan 9 that the girl — a Class 12 student — lodged a complaint at Khol police station. “In her statement, the girl said she had been playing hockey for long and had known the junior coach for around three years. She alleged that about four months ago, the coach sexually assaulted her in the stadium’s bathroom inside the premises of the govt school,” a police officer said.According to police, the girl said in her complaint that she became pregnant after the alleged sexual assault. Her condition deteriorated on Jan 5, prompting her family to take her to hospital for treatment. She suffered a miscarriage, police said.A police official said the coach was being questioned to ascertain the sequence of events and allegations made in the complaint. Police will also collect medical documents related to the girl’s hospital admission and treatment, and record statements from witnesses connected to the stadium and the girl’s training schedule.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
