CHENNAI: TVK president Vijay will be in New Delhi on Monday to appear before the CBI in connection with the probe into Karur stampede, in which 41 people died. The CBI issued a notice under section 179 of the BNSS earlier this month, asking Vijay to present himself for examination. TVK sources said Vijay would be taking a chartered flight from Chennai early on Monday and visit the CBI headquarters in the morning. Ahead of his visit, TVK moved Delhi police seeking security arrangements for Vijay. “The Delhi police will give better security than what was given by DMK govt during the Karur TVK rally,” said BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan. The CBI had issued the summons on Jan 6 asking Vijay to appear for the probe into the Sept 27, 2025 stampede at a TVK campaign in Karur. The Supreme Court transferred the case to the central agency. Investigators have also questioned senior TVK functionaries in Delhi, where party leaders submitted video evidence alleging lapses by the state govt. The CBI also examined the campaign vehicle used by Vijay and the driver of the vehicle was also questioned.
