Thalapathy Vijay’s popular film ‘Theri’ is coming back to theatres. The film will be re-released on January 15, 2026. This also completes ten years since the film first released in 2016. Producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu shared the news on his X account. He also posted a special poster of the film. Fans seem to be happy to hear the re-release update of Vijay’s all-time blockbuster movie amid ‘Jana Nayagan’ delay.
Why fans still love ‘Theri’
Theri is directed by Atlee. Vijay played two roles in the film. He acted as DCP Vijaya Kumar and Joseph Kuruvilla. Nainika played Vijay’s daughter and won many hearts. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson also played important roles. Fans say ‘Theri’ is one of Vijay’s most emotional and stylish films even today.‘Theri’ had all the elements that the fans wanted from a Vijay movie and it proved that Atlee is surely one of the directors who can bring out the potential of the Tamil superstar.The re-release news comes when fans are waiting for Vijay’s next film ‘Jana Nayagan’. The film was earlier planned to release on January 9 this year. But it got delayed because of certification problems. ‘Jana Nayagan’ is said to be Vijay’s final film. The return of ‘Theri’ is giving them some comfort during the wait.
Producer talks about censor problem
‘Jana Nayagan’ producer Venkat K Narayana spoke about the delay in a video shared by the makers. He explained what happened with the censor process. He said, “The film was submitted to the CBFC on December 18 (2025) which was viewed by the examining committee. On December 22 (2025) we received an email stating the film would be granted a UA 16+ certificate subject to a few changes. We incorporated the suggested changes and resubmitted the film.“He also said, “A few days before our planned release on January 5 this year we were informed that the film had been referred to the revising committee based on one complaint. With time running out to approach the revising committee and without knowing who the complainant was we approached the Honourable High Court.”He apologised to fans, theatre owners, and distributors. He said the delay was not planned. He also said Thalapathy Vijay deserves a farewell that people will remember forever.
