Rajisha Vijayan’s new dance number ‘Komala Thaamara’ for an upcoming Malayalam film ‘Masthishkamaranam’ has become the talk of the town. The lyrical song from the Krishand (Aavasavyuham) directorial was dropped on Friday (January 9).
Industry lauds
Rajisha Vijayan, who often appears in a rather village belle, or girl-next-door avatar, appeared in a bold and glamorous avatar in the song ‘Komala Thaamara’. Her fellow actors, including Anna Ben, Esther Anil, Kani Kusruthi, Srinda, Gayathri Ashok, Darshana Rajendran, and Vaishak Nair, cheered for her. They appreciated her willingness to explore new territories. Most of them reshared the song on their Instagram handles and praised the actress. While the majority of the audience were surprised to see the glamorous side of Rajisha Vijayan, they too appreciated the actor’s effort. One comment on YouTube even compares her to Bollywood actor Vidya Balan. “Rajisha nailed it,” wrote another. One stunned viewer commented, “I’m seeing this after the first look poster.”
Online backlash
Though many were delighted to see Rajisha Vijayan’s bold avatar, a section of the audience didn’t seem to like it. They pointed out that the actress has previously expressed her discomfort with objectification. An X user shared a snippet of Rajisha Vijayan’s old interview from 2022 with Mirchi Malayalam, wherein the actress stated that she isn’t interested in being part of ‘item dance’ songs. When the host reminds her of a previous interview where she said she won’t be part of such songs, Rajisha assures that she is not interested even now. Rajisha Vijayan explained that while she does not have a problem with doing glamorous roles or wearing certain outfits, she can’t agree with objectification. She criticised the way such dance numbers are choreographed, their lyrics, dance moves, and even camera angles. Following the release of ‘Komala Thaamara’, a section of netizens has accused the actor of contradicting her earlier statements.
