THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kundara Police on Monday registered cases against the husband of Vipanchika M, who committed suicide along with her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter at Al Nahda in Sharjah. Police charged her husband Nitheesh as first accused, sister-in-law Neethu as second and father-in-law Mohanan as the third accused, with abetment of suicide and dowry harassment.Vipanchika, 33, and her child were found hanging at Al Nahda in Sharjah last Tuesday. She was working as a clerk at a private firm in Sharjah for the last seven years and she married Nitheesh in Nov 2020.

There are reports that a suicide note supposedly written by Vipanchika appeared on her Facebook page but it was deleted later. In the note, she explained the severe torture she faced from her husband, father-in-law and sister-in-law. It contained Vipanchika’s final words detailing the alleged abuse. The note described persistent dowry demands, her husband’s alleged infidelity and attempts to isolate her by confiscating her identity documents.“They all need my money,” the note stated, revealing how her in-laws reportedly prevented her from maintaining a normal relationship with her husband, often suggesting he “would have gotten a better woman.”Vipanchika’s family said that the police case gave them hope and they would continue their legal battle. The family, especially Vipanchika’s mother Shailaja, demanded immediate repatriation of the bodies of her daughter and grandchild and a postmortem be conducted here. The family filed a complaint with the chief minister’s office, state police chief, the Indian embassy and also to Centre in this regard.“I must know the reason for her suicide and all people behind her death must be brought before the law. I need justice as a transparent probe must be ensured,” said Shailaja. She said that those responsible for her daughter’s death shouldn’t go unpunished and justice be served. The mother alleged that Vipanchika faced severe harassment from her husband and his family. She said that her daughter’s only mistake was loving her husband and her daughter’s silence led to this tragedy. She vowed to go to any length to secure justice for her daughter.
