Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ which is an adrenaline pumping spy thriller, is smashing box office records in India and worldwide. Starring Ranveer Singh as Hamza, the film also got loved for its ensemble comprising of Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and others. While it has crossed Rs 790 crore in India, it has now made more than Rs 1200 crore worldwide. While critics have praised the film’s intense action and Ranveer’s performance, some have raised eyebrows over its politics and called it a propaganda film. Director Anurag Kashyap and actor Hrithik Roshan have publicly acknowledged the film’s impact but distanced themselves from its ideology. And now filmmaker Rumi Jaffery, has defended the film. He said during an interaction with Aaj Tak, “Dhurandhar is not a propaganda film. I have watched it twice. It is a 3-hour film, and people walk out by then. But Dhurandhar keeps people engaged.”Meanwhile, recently journalist turned author and columnist Shobhaa De has opened up on it. Reacting to it, she said during a chat with Vickey Lalwani, “Different environment, different era, different motivation, different ethics, different conscience levels and motivation for doing what she was doing. I don’t know if she pulled it down herself or someone asked her to but, regardless, the film speaks for itself. Every single filmmaker, especially someone who comes with sensitive content, comes with a certain political ideology. We should accept it the same way, we accept films out of Hollywood which have strong political content.”
