NEW DELHI: Three days after a 27-year-old man died after falling from the Wazirpur flyover in northwest Delhi, a 24-year-old man was critically injured after he fell from the same flyover when his motorcycle reportedly skidded. Police said they suspected a possible engineering defect at the site and would write to the agency concerned to examine whether any structural or design flaw had led to the incidents. Police have registered a case of negligence in connection with the incident on Sunday.On Tuesday, 24-year-old Ritik, of Rajouri Garden in west Delhi, fell from the flyover while on his motorcycle. Police said the accident occurred around 8 pm.Police got a PCR call at Keshavpuram police station reporting that a man fell from a height following an accident on the flyover. When officers reached the spot, they found Ritik injured and rushed him to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital. He later told police that he was travelling from the Pitampura side towards Punjabi Bagh when his motorcycle, allegedly at high speed, skidded at a turn. The bike then slipped through a gap between the carriageways, causing him to fall from the flyover.A senior officer said: “At high speed, two-wheelers are particularly vulnerable while turning. The lack of proper barriers adds to the danger.” Police have recommended installing speed breakers and barriers to prevent vehicles from breaching the edge.A spot inspection after Sunday’s accident revealed the absence of adequate protective barriers between the two carriageways of the flyover, and the gap between the carriageways was about one foot wide, flanked by a short wall and iron railing, both less than three feet high. As the flyover rose, the height difference between the road below and the flyover ranged from 12 to 15 feet, making anyone’s fall from there potentially fatal.On Sunday, 27-year-old Sourabh died after falling from the flyover through the same gap while returning from a New Year party in Rohini with his friend Priyanka, 30. While Priyanka was found injured on the flyover near their damaged scooter, Sourabh was found beneath the flyover and was declared dead at a hospital.
