VARANASI: The Vanara Sena organisation has lodged a complaint accusing filmmaker SS Rajamouli of allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments with his remarks against Lord Hanuman, police said on Tuesday, news agency ANI reported.The complaint relates to comments made by Rajamouli during a promotional event in Hyderabad for his upcoming film Varanasi.
The filmmaker had participated on 15 November at the ‘Globe Trotter’ event, where he reportedly made the remarks while facing technical glitches.A police official said, “Yesterday we received a complaint from Vanarasena alleging that filmmaker SS Rajamouli hurt Hindu feelings by saying, ‘I don’t believe in God Hanuman,’ at the Varanasi movie teaser launch in Ramoji Film City. So far, we have not registered a case.“The official added that the police are currently investigating the matter.The Globe Trotter event was attended by thousands of fans, including visitors from different countries. It marked the release of the teaser, the first look of actor Mahesh Babu, and the title reveal of Varanasi.The lead cast present at the event included Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Priyanka Chopra. In the film, Priyanka Chopra will play the role of Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran will portray Kumbha.Varanasi is scheduled for release during Sankranti 2027.
