Polydipsia, or excessive thirst, and polyuria, or frequent urination, are classic early signs of diabetes that are related to how the body attempts to regulate excess blood sugar. As blood sugar levels rise, kidneys filter more glucose from the bloodstream, but they can only reabsorb so much before glucose spills into urine, drawing water along with it through osmosis.
According to Ministry of Ayush, Polyuria can be a symptom of undiagnosed diabetes, pre- diabetes, or both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. This cycle makes one feel dehydrated unless extra fluids are taken in. If you find yourself urinating more often than usual or if you feel thirsty even after drinking water more regularly than you normally would, it may call for a fasting blood sugar test.
