IIT Roorkee runs multiple scholarships that address different financial and academic needs. Some are merit and income based, and others focus on supporting disadvantaged groups. Merit cum Means scholarship
The Merit cum Means scholarship applies to undergraduate and Master of Science (MSc) students. Eligible Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Architecture (BArch), Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), Integrated Master of Technology (IMT), Integrated Master of Science (IMS), Bachelor of Science–Master of Science (BS–MS) and MSc candidates receive at least Rs 1,000 per month for 10 months. BTech students also receive a refund of the remaining tuition fee.Applicants must belong to the General, General (Economically Weaker Section) or Other Backward Class (OBC) category and have a parental or guardian income not exceeding Rs 5 lakh. Students must maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and Yearly Grade Point Average (YGPA) of 7.00, clear registered courses and have no disciplinary record. Fresh entrants are exempt from CGPA and course clearance requirements. The scholarship is limited to the normal programme duration and only covers the first four years of IDD courses. It is available to up to 25% of the class strength.
James Thomason scholarship
The James Thomason scholarship is awarded to students admitted through the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) in BTech, BArch, IDD, IMT, IMS and BS–MS programmes. The criteria is simple. Candidates must secure an All India Rank (AIR) of up to 250 in the most recent JEE (Advanced). The scholarship recognises high-ranking entrants at the admission stage.
INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education
The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE), run by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), supports students in science streams. Eligibility applies to those who rank in the top 1% in Class 12 or hold qualifying ranks in examinations such as the JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) or Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY).For renewals at IIT Roorkee, Integrated MSc students in Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics must have a parental income not exceeding Rs 5 lakh and must have held the scholarship earlier. First-year BS-MS and MSc or Integrated MSc candidates are also eligible if they hold an AIR of up to 10,000 in JEE (Advanced 2021) or the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2022.
Dr S K Goel and Mrs Kusum Goel Scholarship
Introduced in 2022, the Dr S K Goel and Mrs Kusum Goel scholarship supports financially constrained undergraduate students. Each selected candidate receives Rs 2 lakh per year. One new student is added annually until 2025, after which four students will receive the grant each year. The scholarship continues for four years of the BTech programme if the student maintains a CGPA of 7.5.It is open to first-year BTech students from the General and OBC categories with a family income between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.
Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students Pursuing Engineering Education
This scholarship supports two undergraduate students each year with an award of $1,000 annually. It continues for four years if the student maintains a CGPA of 7.0.
